Yellow-throated Toucan

Ramphastos ambiguus

Overview

Osa Peninsula, Tortuguero and Corcovado are among the six atlas places where the Yellow-throated Toucan is recorded. Its records concentrate in Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia and Nicaragua. The atlas holds about 255,000 records of the bird from eight countries, and the map shows where these records gather.

Recorded seasons differ by region, and each place page shows the months recorded there.

These are open occurrence records, so they show where people looked for and recorded the Yellow-throated Toucan as much as where it lives. The atlas keeps a species' 200 best-recorded grid cells, so the map shows where records concentrate rather than its whole range. Cells are up to 25 km across, and every location is generalised to its cell.

Where you'll find them

Generalised encounter areas, not exact locations. Each shape is a grid cell coloured by how likely the species is there.
