Papio ursinus
Kruger National Park, the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park are among the 25 atlas places where the Chacma Baboon is recorded. Its 364 records concentrate in eight countries, most frequently across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, as well as Zimbabwe and Zambia. This mammal, known as Papio ursinus, appears in the atlas as a widespread presence across its southern African range.
Records are seasonal, showing peaks in March, August and September, while May remains the month with the fewest entries.
Each bar is the share of its 33 month-dated grid cells with records in that month.
These are open occurrence records, so they show where people looked for and recorded the Chacma Baboon as much as where it lives. Cells are up to 25 km across, and every location is generalised to its cell.
Generalised encounter areas, not exact locations. Each shape is a grid cell coloured by how likely the species is there.
Conservation status not assessed here yet, so every location is generalised to its grid cell.
