Civettictis civetta
Kruger National Park, Amboseli National Park and Mapungubwe National Park are the three atlas places where the African Civet is recorded. Its records concentrate most heavily in Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, Benin and Uganda. This member of the Viverridae family is documented across 16 countries, and the atlas holds 471 records of the species. The map displays its full range within the atlas territories.
These are open occurrence records, so they show where people looked for and recorded the African Civet as much as where it lives. Cells are up to 25 km across, and every location is generalised to its cell.
Generalised encounter areas, not exact locations. Each shape is a grid cell coloured by how likely the species is there.
Conservation status not assessed here yet, so every location is generalised to its grid cell.
